Organic Gardening
Nimmo Community Garden only practices organic gardening. This means we do not allow the use any synthetic (chemical) pesticides or fertilizers. Below is the approved list of what is allowed. If there is something you are not sure of, or think something should be included on this list, please contact garden@nimmochurch.com for review.
Pesticides
Hand picking bugs off plants and destroying them in soapy water
Neem Oil – spray top, underside of leaves and stalk
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) – sprinkle at the base of squash to stop vine borers
Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) – for controlling larvae and moths
Soapy water (3 T dish soap i.e Dawn per gallon of water – Spray directly on aphids and mites, not just leaves
Fertilizers
- Garden Tone
- Fish Emulsion
- Epsom Salt
- Blood Meal
- Bone Meal
